Wear Conditions (FN, MW, FT, WW, BS)

The five exterior grades every CS2 skin is traded under — and what they actually mean.

Every CS2 skin is listed under one of five wear conditions, from cleanest to most worn: Factory New (FN), Minimal Wear (MW), Field-Tested (FT), Well-Worn (WW) and Battle-Scarred (BS).

The condition is determined by the skin's float value — a hidden decimal set when the item is created. It never changes: skins do not degrade with use.

Reading conditions like a trader

  • FN and MW carry the biggest premiums — differences in wear are most visible on clean skins.
  • FT is the widest range (0.15–0.38): a "good FT" near 0.15 can look almost MW, a "bad FT" near 0.38 looks tired. Check the float, not just the label.
  • WW is the narrowest range and often the worst value: barely cheaper than BS but rarely better looking.
  • BS is a bargain tier for dark finishes that hide wear — and a collector niche of its own (max-float hunting).

Not every skin exists in every condition

Each finish defines a float cap. Some skins can never be FN; others can never be BS. That scarcity is priced in — a rare condition of a common skin can trade far above its neighbours.

Frequently asked questions

Do CS2 skins wear out over time?

No. A skin's wear is fixed by its float value when the item is created and never changes with use.

Which wear condition is the best value?

It depends on the finish. Field-Tested often offers the best look-per-euro, but always check the actual float — the FT range is wide.

Why does a skin not exist in Factory New?

Every finish defines a minimum and maximum float. If the minimum is above 0.07, the skin can never drop as Factory New.
