Every CS2 skin has a float value — a number between 0.00000000 and 1.00000000 that determines how scratched, faded, or battle-worn the skin appears in-game. Lower float values mean a cleaner look; higher values mean more visible wear.
The float value falls into one of five wear ranges:

Not every skin can exist in every condition. Each skin has a minimum and maximum float defined by its finish. For example, the AWP | Dragon Lore has a float range of 0.00–0.70, so it can never drop in Battle-Scarred.
Two skins in the same wear tier can look very different. An FT skin at 0.15 looks almost Minimal Wear, while an FT at 0.37 looks close to Well-Worn. Collectors pay premiums for "low float" skins — especially in the Factory New and Minimal Wear ranges where small differences in wear are visually obvious.
In trade-up contracts, the outcome skin's float is calculated as a weighted average of the input skins' floats, scaled to the output skin's float range. This means you can influence the wear of your trade-up result by carefully selecting input float values.
